What does “cosplay” mean to you? Why do you cosplay and how has it impacted your life?
hello! ^v^ cosplay, being a portmanteau of “costume” and “play”, basically encompasses what i believe cosplay is all about: having fun. there is a large amount of enjoyment in dressing as one’s favorite character and getting to quite literally be in their shoes. i cosplay partially for this: this exciting feeling of getting to at least look similar to your favorite character and interact with others as them. another reason i adore cosplay is having a sense of personal achievement. obviously, beginner cosplayers do not have the amassed skill level that more experienced cosplayers have, and it takes practice and hard work to reach that level! of course, this does not mean that one should not stop at a beginner. it’s exhilarating recreating a prop that you thought looked alright before and seeing how much you have changed or grown in skill level. all efforts of cosplay should be appreciated, because they all strive to reach a higher and higher personal level. cosplay is not about earning the approval of other people or to please them, but to work personally on one’s own skills and have fun doing so! cosplay is a fun hobby for many because they can emulate their favorite character, grow in sewing and crafting skills, and make many friends through the hobby, as i have experienced myself. cosplay has brought much joy to my life, through being a cathartic hobby and bringing me many lifelong friends.
hey. find the nearest person to you and compliment them. tell them their hair looks good, or that their laugh is lovely. tell them you hope they have a wonderful day. and if nobody is nearby, say it to yourself.
